Bernardo Francisco de Lizaur Cuesta was born in Seville in 1963. He is married and has two children.
He gained admission to the General Military Academy in 1985, receiving his Royal Commission as Lieutenant of Cavalry in 1990. In 2018, he was promoted to the rank of Colonel.
Col. de Lizaur Cuesta holds the Armed Forces General Staff Diploma, as well as the Operational Military Research Diploma.
He also has a Master's degree in Operational Research from the Complutense University of Madrid, and is a graduate of the Leadership in Public Management Programme of the IESE Business School.
Over the course of his career, he has held both civilian and military postings, in the Household of His Majesty The King and in the Armed Forces. In 2004, he was stationed at the Sarajevo NATO Headquarters.
In 2005, he joined the Secretariat-General of the Household of His Majesty The King, and since 2015 he has held the position of Director of Audiences and Events.
By Royal Decree 932/2021, of 23 October, he was appointed Chief of Protocol of the Secretariat-General of the Household of His Majesty The King.
