I would like to begin by thanking you for giving me the opportunity to be here with you all today in Gütersloh. I am truly delighted to visit this place, a place which has seen the launch of so many successful projects such as those of the Bertelsmann group; projects that, on many occasions, have fostered greater proximity and communication between our two countries. I am particularly grateful to Mrs Mohn, who has for so long been a leading player and champion of a closer relationship between our respective societies.
On my first visit to Germany as King of Spain, I am very glad to have been able to give some time and space to the economy. I do believe that business relations between Germany and Spain are clearly dynamic, and the dedication of the people and businesses gathered here today has undoubtedly contributed to this. Thank you for your presence and company today for this visit, and thank you for what you are doing; for Germany and Spain, and also for Europe.
Behind each of the projects that you represent there is a perceptive business culture but also, more importantly, great individual and collective efforts. We need entrepreneurial enthusiasm in order to look to the future with new projects. The ideas and creativity that I have observed here today are, without a doubt, a great example of the stimulus we need for the future. I encourage you to continue with your enthusiastic progress and wish you every success—success that can only strengthen further our confidence and help to reaffirm our stability and progress. Only with this confidence in our capacity to innovate and surpass barriers will we be able to overcome the challenges of growth and job creation.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
This event concludes the programme of my official visit to Germany. In this time I have had the opportunity to approach a wide range of areas in which our bilateral relations are closely interconnected. I am certain that we need to continue intensifying dialogue and supporting the ever-increasing closeness between our societies within the European framework.
This brings me to the end of a visit that has given me a close-up look at Germany, its political players, institutions and businesses and —just today— a ‘Land’ such as North Rhine-Westphalia, which, Madam President, I am sure also harbours vast potential for Spanish-German relations, which we must find a way of exploring.
With these words, and my best wishes for all of you, I raise my glass to Germany and Spain and to the friendship between our two nations.

Quiero comenzar mis palabras agradeciendo esta oportunidad que me ofrecen de estar hoy aquí, en Gütersloh, con todos ustedes. Me alegro verdaderamente de visitar este lugar desde el que se han lanzado tantos proyectos de éxito como los que ha emprendido el grupo Bertelsmann. Proyectos que, en muchas ocasiones, han favorecido el acercamiento y la comunicación entre nuestros dos países. Manifiesto en particular mi agradecimiento a la Sra. Mohn que, durante tanto tiempo, ha sido una activa protagonista e impulsora de la más estrecha relación entre nuestras respectivas sociedades.
Me alegro mucho de haber podido dedicar, en esta primera visita que realizo a Alemania como Rey de España, un tiempo y un espacio para la economía. Tengo el convencimiento de que las relaciones empresariales entre Alemania y España son francamente dinámicas y de que a ello ha contribuido, sin duda, la dedicación de personas y empresas como las que están aquí reunidas.
Detrás de cada uno de los proyectos que ustedes representan hay visiones empresariales acertadas, pero, sobre todo, un gran esfuerzo personal y colectivo. Necesitamos ilusión empresarial para mirar al futuro con nuevos proyectos. Las ideas y la creatividad que he podido percibir hoy son, sin duda, un gran estímulo para el futuro. Les animo a continuar avanzando con entusiasmo y les deseo mucho éxito, el éxito que debe reforzar nuestra confianza y que contribuirá a reafirmar nuestra estabilidad y nuestro progreso. Solo con esa confianza en nuestra capacidad de innovar y vencer barreras podremos superar el desafío del crecimiento y de la creación de empleo.

Con este acto termina el programa de mi visita a Alemania. Durante estos días he podido aproximarme a gran diversidad de sectores en los que el entramado de nuestras relaciones bilaterales es intenso. Estoy convencido de que necesitamos seguir profundizando nuestro diálogo y apoyando el acercamiento que están experimentando nuestras sociedades en el marco europeo.
Concluyo, pues, esta visita que me ha permitido acercarme a Alemania, a sus actores políticos, instituciones y empresariales y, en el día de hoy, a un Land, como es Renania del Norte-Westfalia, en el que, Señora Presidenta, estoy seguro de que existe también un intenso potencial para las relaciones hispano-alemanas que debemos saber explorar.
Con estas palabras y mis mejores deseos para todos ustedes, brindo por Alemania y España y por la amistad entre nuestras dos naciones.
