Miguel Ángel Herráiz Alarcón was born on 2 September 1963 in the town of Carboneras de Guadazaón, in the province of Cuenca, Spain. He is married and has two children.
He was admitted to the General Military Academy in Zaragoza in 1982, and was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Civil Guard in 1987.
During his career, he has also formed part of the Civil Guard's Rapid Reaction Force (G.A.R.). He joined the Security Service for the Household of His Majesty the King in 1988, working as Head Bodyguard and Deputy Head of Security.
He has a degree in Law from Autónoma University of Madrid, and has taught a number of courses, such as Special Training for the Civil Guard, the Senior Specialist course for the Judicial Police and Police Information Corps, and the Master's Degree in Strategic Management of Public Safety at King Juan Carlos University.
In March 2021 he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General.
He was appointed Head of Security for the Household of His Majesty the King by Royal Decree 1024/2017, of 5 December.
