Mr. Camilo Villarino Marzo was born in Zaragoza on 11 April 1964.
In 1987, he graduated in Law from the University of Zaragoza, later obtaining a Diploma in Advanced European Studies (Administration and Political Science) at the College of Europe (Bruges, Belgium). He also took the High Level Course in European Security and Defence Policy at the European Security and Defence College (2007-2008).
He joined the Diplomatic Service in 1989. He has worked in the International Legal Advisory Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1990-1993) and the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 1993). He has also held the posts of Deputy Head of Mission at the Spanish Embassy in Zagreb, Croatia (1994-1997); Counsellor for Development Cooperation (1997-1999) and Antici Counsellor (1999-2002) at the Permanent Representation of Spain to the European Union (Brussels, Belgium); Deputy Director-General for Institutional European Union Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation in Madrid (2002-2008); Counsellor for Transatlantic Relations and Security and Defence Affairs at the Spanish Embassy in Washington, United States of America (2008-2013) and Deputy Head of Mission, Minister-Counsellor, at the Spanish Embassy in Rabat (Morocco) (2013-2017).
From 2017 to 2021, he was the Director of the Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation. From 2022 to February 2024, he was the Director of the Office of the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. Moreover, he was a Senior Advisor in the Office of the Secretary of State for the European Union at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation (2021-2022) and Political Advisor to the Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs of the European External Action Service from March to September 2022.
He is married and has three daughters.
Appointed Head of the Royal Household of His Majesty the King by Royal Decree 185/2024 of 16 February 2024.
