Ms Ana Varela Varela was born in Taboada, in Lugo province, on 21 October 1972.
She holds degrees in Law (1995) and Management (1996), with a specialization in Financial Management, from Comillas Pontifical University (ICADE-E3). In 2001, she joined the State control and audit service. From 2018 to 2024, she held the post of Deputy Director-General of Control and Oversight at the Office of the Comptroller General of the State.
She previously held the posts of Department Comptroller at the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness (2016-2018), Deputy Director-General for Centralized Procurement of Goods, Works and Services at the Directorate-General for Procurement Streamlining and Centralization at the Ministry of Finance (2013-2016), Deputy Comptroller at the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism and at the Ministry of Science and Technology (2004-2013). She has also held several posts at the Deputy Director-General’s Office for Analysis and Economic Accounts of the Public Sector (2001-2003).
She is married and has three children.
On 31 August 2024, Ms Ana Varela Varela was appointed Comptroller of the Household of His Majesty The King by Royal Decree 870/2024, of 30 August 2024.
